Sligo’s Keelan Kilrehill wins team gold at European Cross Country Championships



Dromore West athlete Keelan Kilrehill has helped Ireland win the team gold medal at the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin by finishing sixth in the men’s under-23 race.

His Ireland team-mate and training partner, Darragh McEhinney, won individual silver.

Kilrehill, who’s a member of Moy Valley Athletic Club in Ballina, is coached by fellow Dromore West man Emmett Dunleavy.

He spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s PJ Leddy after his run:

 

Ireland won the team event with their first three finishers scoring a total of 21 points to finish ahead of Great Britain & NI.

The Ireland team placings were:

2nd Darragh McElhinney
6th: Keelan Kilrehill
13th: Micheal Power
40th: Donal Devane
44th: Jamie Battle
67th: Thomas Devaney.

The race was won by GB athlete Charles Hicks.
