McConalogue confident of no further restrictions



A Donegal TD says he’s “hopeful” Ireland can avoid another lockdown.

 

It comes as NPHET meet today to consider recommending new restrictions, after the first case of the Omicron variant in Ireland was identified yesterday.

 

The Justice Minister Helen McEntee earlier this week said she does not envisage another lockdown in the coming weeks.

 

Helen McEntee said the country is in a completely different space compared to last year.

 

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said he is “sceptical” of the need for new Covid-19 restrictions.

Speaking to the Fine Gael parliamentary party last night , Mr Varadkar said the current wave is stabilising and suggested he is not in favour of imposing more restrictions on “people’s freedoms, family life and businesses”.

 

Earlier today the Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue expressed a similar message adding that he was confident the country can continue under the restrictions currently in place:
