A Sligo Leitrim TD says the Department of Education should deploy school inspectors as substitute teachers to ensure there are enough teachers available to schools over the coming months.
Inspectors are responsible for evaluating primary and post-primary schools for their quality of education. The inspectors are also fully qualified teachers.
Sligo/Leitrim Independent TD, Marian Harkin says there has been a shortage over the past year but fears the current pool of teachers is not large enough to meet demands.
She is to raise the matter with the under pressure Minister for Education, Normal Foley in the Dáil today
Deputy Harkin believes ‘radical action’ is needed from the Minister.
