12 year wait for some Local Improvement Scheme applications in Co. Leitrim

Independent Sligo/Leitrim TD, Marian Harkin, says the backlog for Local Improvement Scheme in Co. Leitrim is ‘totally unacceptable.’

She says applications as far back as 2009 are still awaiting approval.

The LIS provides funding to help local authorities carry out improvement works on private and non-publicly maintained roads.

Deputy Harkin raised the issue in the Dail with the Taoiseach, Micheal Martin, where she was told the government want to be ‘as repsonsive as we can’.

She claims around €3m would be needed to clear the backlog.
