Dedicated refuge centre for victims of domestic abuse required for the region

A Sligo councillor is highlighting the fact there is no dedicated refuge centre for victims of domestic abuse in the Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan area.

Over 1,000 incidents of domestic abuse have been reported across the north west region to Gardaí as of the September this year.

596 of these were documented in Donegal and 471 in the Sligo/Leitrim Garda Division.

Independent Councillor, Marie Casserly says DVAS services are operating in the region but have limited resources.

She says a long awaited Tusla Accommodation Review needs to be published as soon as possible as this will give a clear picture of what areas need investment.
