Sligo Rovers qualify for Europe with 3-0 win

Sligo Rovers beat St Patrick’s Athletic 3-0 in Friday night’s televised SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game at Inchicore to secure European football for the second consecutive season.

That win, coupled with Derry City’s failure to beat Finn Harps, means Liam Buckley’s side are assured of at least a third place finish in the table, which means Europa Conference League football next season.

First half goals from Ryan De Vries and Johnny Kenny secured the victory for Rovers.

Adam McDonnell then made sure of the points for Rovers in the final minute of normal time, scoring his first goal for the club direct from a free-kick wide on the right.

With two league games to go, Rovers have closed to within four points of Pat’s – and still have an outside chance of finishing runners-up in the Premier Division table.

Friday night’s results
St Patrick’s Athletic 0 Sligo Rovers 3
Waterford FC 1 Shamrock Rovers 3
Finn Harps 1 Derry City 1.
