Sligo Rovers snatch dramatic win over Longford

A Lewis Banks goal in the 90th minute gave Sligo Rovers a priceless 1-0 win over Longford Town in Monday night’s re-arranged SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game at the Showgrounds.

The goal came at the end of a frustrating evening for the home team as, despite being relegated to the First Division, Longford performed admirably and matched Rovers for much of the 90 minutes with defender Aaron O’Driscoll in inspired form.

There were fleeting chances for Sligo Rovers but the home team were unable to capitalise on any of them.

Longford themselves had chances to claim all three points in the closing stages – before Banks popped up in the dying moments to fire home to the corner of the net.

Rovers manager Liam Buckley spoke to Cathal Mullaney after Monday night’s win:

Monday night’s results
Sligo Rovers 1 Longford Town 0
Finn Harps 0 Drogheda Unied 0
St Pat’s 2 Bohemians 2.
