Historic day as ‘Drumboe’ steam engine returns to Donegal Town

Today marks the return of an iconic steam engine to Co. Donegal.

The steam engine known as ‘Drumboe’, was the last train to operate in the county on the 31st of December 1959 from Donegal Town.

An extensive restoration job was carried out in Whitehead, at Carrickfergus, in County Antrim.

Niall McCaughan, manager at Donegal Railway Heritage Centre, says people may be able to spot the 45 tonne engine as it makes it’s return to Donegal Town this afternoon.
