Tanaiste Leo Varadkar’s visit to Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim came on the same day as the Bank of Ireland branch in the town closes.
It’s one of 88 closing throughout the country today.
Others closing in the north west include Ballymote, Tubbercurry, Bundoran, Manorhamilton and Glenties.
The Finance Minister says the closure of more than a third of Bank of Ireland branches is a reflection of a big change in how people bank.
Paschal Donohoe says while it’s a commercial decision, he knows it’s a difficult day for many.
