Leitrim records largest percentage increase of adults in emergency accommodation



The county of Leitrim has recorded the largest percentage increase in the country when it comes to
the number of adults in emergency accommodation.

A new performance report of the 31 local authorities shows the average wait time to rehouse a tenant in social housing is 33 weeks, up from 28 in 2019.

It highlights that 141,000 homes are under local government ownership, with an average vacancy rate of 3 per cent.

Limerick recorded the greatest proportional decrease.

Meanwhile, there were almost 85,000 pollution complaints made to councils last year – an increase of almost 6,000 in 2019.
