Varied local reactions to Coveney vote, MacSharry’s departure from FF parliamentary party

The position of north west TDs on the Sinn Fein no-confidence motion in Simon Coveney and the departure of Marc MacSharry from the Fianna Fail parliamentary party has followed predictable lines.

One of those TDs, Sligo/Leitrim  Independent Deputy Marian Harkin said she felt the appropriate punishment for Minister Coveney was a yellow card rather than a red card.

A similar conciliatory stance was taken by Minister Coveney’s party colleague in Donegal, Joe McHugh.

However, Sinn Fein was scathing in its approach. Donegal Sinn Fein Deputy Pearse Doherty:

Sligo/Leitrim Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny welcomed the eventual departure of Deputy MacSharry from Fianna Fail follows his years of criticism of the party and its leadership.

Longtime Leitrim Fianna Fail Concillor Mary Bohan is laying the blame for what has happened at the feet of Michael Martin.
