Mountain Rescue Team report busier summer in 2021

Concern is being expressed over the increase in the number of people who need to be rescued from mountains across the country this year.

Mountain rescue personnel locally as well as those nationwide have reported  a greater demand for their services this year compared to previous years with more people holidaying at home due to covid restrictions.

It’s also feared that more serious injuries and fatalities could take place on the mountains as more people, some of whom are ill-prepared, take to the hills and mountains of the region.

Alan Sayers from the Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue team says there are a number of factors which has led to injuries and fatalities this year.
