Local TD urges Government to address passport backlog

The processing of passports should be ‘reinvented’ to radically reduce turnaround times, according to a north west TD.

The call comes as many people across the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are are having to wait at least eight weeks to get a new passport.

The Irish Travel Agents Association says many holiday-makers are being forced to cancel their travel plans.

Donegal Independent TD, Thomas Pringle says the process should be sped up with better technology and more human resources being deployed to tackle the backlog.
