99 vacant nurse and midwifery positions in Sligo University Hospital



There are 99 vacant nurse and midwifery positions in Sligo University Hospital according to figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

There’s also a total of 55 vacant staff positions across Letterkenny University Hospital.

Sligo remains the worst hit in the country when it comes to the number of Covid-19 patients.

21 people are receiving treatment, which is the same number as yesterday, matched only by Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

3 people are also in the ICU with the virus according to the latest HSE figures.

While a local Councillor says the number of people attending the Emergency Department at Sligo University Hospital is at ‘historic levels.’

The hospital has almost 10% of all Covid hospitalisations in the country today with 21 receiving treatment.

Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there are 99 vacant nurse and midwifery positions in the hospital.

There are also 55 vacant staff position in general across Letterkenny University Hospital.

Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh says the HSE are to install a prefab unit in the coming weeks in Sligo as an attempt to alleviate some pressure.

However, Councillor Walsh says it’s only a short term solution to a larger problem and understands there are no plans to hire  additional staff.
