Review of speed limits of rural roads in Sligo to take place

A Sligo Councillor says the local authority are to conduct a review of roads in the county over the next two years as he feels some rural roads have speed limits that are too high for the route.

Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh cites a recent survey by the Road Safety Authority that found four out of 5 roads deaths in Ireland this year occurred on rural roads.

He says a number of routes in the region have limits of 80km/hr that should be looked at being reduced to 60km/hr.

Councillor Walsh says there are many roads in the likes of Sligo that are too narrow and sharper for the suggested speed.
