Mica campaigners take concerns to European Commission

Mica redress campaigners have taken their concerns about sub-standard construction products to the European Commission.

Donegal Sinn Fein TD, Padraig MacLochlainn says there’s no doubt the State failed in its responsibilities to ensure concrete blocks were manufactured safely.

Campaigners say the Irish Government has failed to ensure the safety of construction products sold and used in Ireland, under the EU’s Construction Products Regulation.

In June, thousands of homeowners affected by defective mica blocks, marched in Dublin calling on the Government to provide a 100 redress scheme for around 7 thousand properties affected by the defective mica blocks.

Deputy MacLochlainn says right now the Government need to reassure families they’ll be looked after.
