‘Safehaven’ yacht scheme for refugee children a great success

A number of children from Sligo have taken part in the ‘Safehaven scheme’ which Sligo Yacht Club partook in over the summer.

Safehaven is a non for profit founded by a Sligo woman, Shauna Fallon, now living in Dublin that works on integration projects for refugee families.

Through the Sligo Resource centre children were identified from a refugee background and that were interested in learning to sail.

9 kids between ages of 10 and 13 completed 2 weeks of sailing camp this year.

Nancy Rooney from the Sligo yacht Club says it was a hugely beneficial project for all concerned
