Warnings issued about swimming in not recognised bathing area.



OceanFM news understands that a number of people have become ill in Leitrim after swimming at popular waterways in the County over recent days.

 

In response Leitrim County Council has issued warning the public not to swim in water that is not suitable for swimming and is not a recognised bathing area.

 

Included in these areas are Acres Lake and Cormongan in Drumshanbo which are both are undesignated bathing areas

 

Leitrim County Council says that algal bloom/scum in the water near to the shore which may have been caused by boats has led to a number of swimmers becoming ill
