Weekend burglary shows the need for a Garda Station in Drumkeerin

Gardaí are investigating a burglary which occurred at a business premises in Drumkeerin, Co Leitrim on Saturday morning last (July 10th 2021)

Gardaí have confirmed that no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

Garda Sergeant Aoife Hayes told the north west today show that a ‘sum of money’ was stolen in the burglary.

Yesterday’s meeting of Leitrim County Council heard a motion which called on the Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner to reopen the Garda Station in Drumkeeran.

The calls were made by Local Fianna Fáil Councillor, Mary Bohan who described the closure was a very poor decision.

Cllr Bohan says in the best interests of the local community this property should be withdrawn from the proposed public auction in September and returned to a functioning Garda station.
