Plans to improve the bus service in and around Sligo town

There are plans to improve the bus service in and around Sligo town — but funding will first have to be provided by government to implement any proposed changes.

It follows a virtual meeting yesterday afternoon between county councillors from Sligo town and county with officials of the National Transport Authority.

The NTA has responsibility for the provision, regulation and oversight of public passenger transport services.

The proposals are in response to a briefing submitted earlier to the NTA by councillors outlining what their constituents in a number of areas were seeking.

The new proposals include tweaking of the S1 and S2 routes in Sligo town and the possible provision of a new third S3 route.

Fianna Fail Councillor Tom MacSharry was among the councillors who participated in yesterday’s meeting.

Afterwards, he outlined to Ocean FM News what areas the proposed third route would cover.
