Waiting times for warmer homes schemes are unacceptable

A Sligo Councillor is raising issues with the waiting time for people availing of the Warmer Home Scheme.

A backlog with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) means some are waiting upwards of two years for essential works to be carried out in their home.

The scheme provides funding for the likes of attic and cavity wall insulation, draught-proofing and the installation of low energy light bulbs

Those in receipt of the Fuel Allowance, or other qualifying schemes, can avail of funding, however, the time between a surveyor calling to the home and works beginning is far too long according to Sligo Fine Gael Councillor, Dara Mulvey.

Speaking to OceanFM News, he says the local authority should write to the minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamonn Ryan to ensure the backlog is dealt with as a matter of urgency.
