Ending domestic violence should be priority for government

A local TD says eradicating domestic violence should be a priority for the government.

Speaking in the Dail, Sligo/Leitrim Indpendent TD, Marian Harkin said it sometimes feels that as a society, we don’t fully understand ‘the horror’ that people go through.

She said 370,000 women in Ireland will experience some form of domestic violence or abuse in their lifetime.

Deputy Harkin said if we really understood the hardships they go through, we would have a different attitude.
