Roscommon’s four-goal blitz sinks Leitrim

Four Roscommon goals, two either side of half-time, decided Tuesday night’s Connacht under-20 quarter-final at a wet Dr Hyde Park, as the home side ran out decisive winners by 4-15 to 0-10

Adam McDermott and Ben O’Carroll both found the net in three crazy minutes of added times at the end of the opening half, just as Leitrim full-back Gavin Reynolds was black-carded in a separate incident.

Roscommon went in at half-time leading 2-10 to 0-6, which was harsh on Leitrim as they had been competitive in that first half with full forward Tom Prior causing the home defence several problems.

However, worse was to come for Leitrim straight from the restart as Darragh Heneghan scored a third Roscommon goal – and then moments later James Fitzpatrick added a fourth to put the result beyond all doubt.
