An old tradition will be maintained in Sligo today when the funeral takes place of the former mayor of Sligo and Cathaoirleach of the county council, Cllr. Padraig Branley.
That tradition is the funeral procession of former mayors through the town.
Today, the late Cllr Branley’s cortege will depart from his home at Upper Pearse Road at 12.15 pm.
It will travel down Teeling St, onto Castle St, Grattan St, O ‘Connell St, Hyde Bridge, and Markievicz Road.
It will then proceed onto the N15 on its way to St Colmcille’s Church, Rathcormack for Funeral Service at 1 pm.
Sligo County Council and Sligo Gardaí are asking for the cooperation and understanding of motorists during the short delays while the cortege passes through Sligo.
