ISME calls for rapid tapering off of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

A small firms group is calling for a more rapid tapering off of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

ISME says the income support is acting as a significant brake on return to work for many sectors, including hospitality and agriculture.

Many hospitality and tourism-related businesses in the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have recently reported the challenges they are facing in securing the services of staff.

It’s claimed that the challenges with attracting staff is a result of former employees having taken up alternative employment and others choosing to stay on the PUP Payments.

ISME representatives will tell an Oireachtas Committee employers are struggling to recruit workers for part-time, seasonal, or casual employment.
