Donegal TD cals for a full review into mental health care

A Donegal TD is calling for a full review of the mental health services being provided in the Republic of Ireland.

Independent TD, Deputy Thomas Pringle made the calls after a state watchdog says many of the country’s mental health units are outdated and not fit for purpose.

The mental Health Commission is calling for urgent investment, to protect them against another surge of Covid-19 or a future pandemic.

There was a peak of 269 cases a week in these units in January – and they claim poor facilities were a factor.

The Independent Donegal TD says the Covid pandemic has highlighted many concerns in relation to mental health.
