Future of Cliffoney Post Office in doubt

Another post office in north Sligo, this time in Cliffoney, is expected to close later this year but there are hopes that the business will remain in the village.

It follows the closure of Ballinfull Post Office near Maugherow in August 2018, despite a strong local campaign to keep it open or have another post office set up in the area.

Cliffoney Post Office was also threatened with closure around the same time but, after a local campaign for its retention, it was saved after a review by An Post, which extended its contract for another three years.

North Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy says many post offices are simply not viable and he has accused An Post of now trying to close them by stealth.

He outlined the situation in relation to the post office in Cliffoney.
