Donegal man loses claim after being knocked unconscious during golf tournament

A Donegal man has lost his claim at the High Court after being knocked unconscious during a Sligo golf tournament.

Colm Campbell was hit by a golf ball and sued the club, organisers and the golfer who took the shot after he attended the West of Ireland Amateur Golf Championship at Rosses Point Golf Club in March 2016.

RTE reports that the 65 year old admitted to the court that he and his friend were talking at the time of the shot so were not watching and claims the golfer, Kevin LeBlanc, should have shouted ‘fore’ to warn people.

Ms Justice Bronagh O’Hanlon said in her ruling that all spectators at the tournament were deemed knowledgeable about golf and would be reasonably expected to take care of their own safety accordingly.
