Sligo LGFA begin league challenge against Down this Sunday

The 2021 Lidl national football league campaign begins this weekend with Donegal hosting Westmeath in a lunchtime Division 1 game on Sunday at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey.

Maxi Curran’s side will be looking to make a winning start as they prepare for seven league and championship games in an eight week period.

For Sligo, under new manager Anthony Brennan, their Division 3 campaign begins on Sunday with a trip to Downpatrick to face Down. The game will be live in full on oceanfm.ie with commentary from Alanna Cunanne and Down footballer Aimee Greene.

Nicola Brennan, Sligo’s captain again this year, spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan on ‘The Final Whistle’ about the team’s league prospects – and about Thursday night’s All-Ireland intermediate championship draw, which saw Sligo drawn in Group A along with Westmeath, Longford and Wexford.
