North West MEP highlights need for Western Rail Corridor



A North West MEP says the recently established Mayo-Waterford rail freight service highlights the need for the Western Rail Corridor.

Sinn Fein MEP, Chris MacManus says the route is great for the region but is raising issue that due to the nations current rail setup, the trains have to travel via Dublin before heading to Waterford.

MEP MacManus believes the establishment of the Western Rail Corridor would make the journey 60km shorter saving businesses money and be considerably more environmentally friendly.

Speaking to OceanFM News, he says the Mayo-Waterford line shows their is great potential for the north west.
