Warnings issued in relation to the use of inflatbale water toys

Parents of young children are being reminded of the dangers of playing close to water this summer.

The warning was issued after the Rescue 118 Helicopter was called over the weekend to assist a child that was blown out to sea in Donegal on an inflatable toy.

The child was unharmed in the incident and was rescued before the Rescue 118 arrived on scene.

It’s expected that large numbers will flock to beaches in this region during the summer months as the staycation starts to get busier with the easing of the Covid-19 restrictions.

Sligo/Drumcliff Councillor Donal Gilroy was one of the Councillors who had called for inflatable water toys to be banned.

He says work is continuing on introducing legislation which would make it illegal to purchase them.
