Motorists around Sligo town experienced significant delays today because of diversions due to ongoing road works.
The diversions also affected people travelling to the Covid vaccination centre at IT Sligo.
This evening, Sligo County Council issued the following statement to Ocean FM News in response to queries about about the delays.
The statement reads: “The current phase of the N4/N15 Sligo Urban Improvement Scheme has
involved surfacing works at the Duck St Junction.
“While diversions have been in place while these essential works were being carried out, Sligo County Council and its project contractors apologise for the significant delays experienced today by motorists and other road users.”
The statement goes on: “Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional
journey time , especially at peak times.
“It is expected that the surfacing works for this phase of the work will be completed Thursday afternoon when traffic flow should return to normal.”
