Tánaiste says Sligo homes with defective blocks should be included in national scheme

The Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar says he can see no reason why houses in Sligo impacted by Pyrite and Mica should not be included in a national scheme aimed at covering the remedial costs.

The situation regarding what is now believed to be a substantial number of houses in rural Sligo was raised in the Dáil yesterday by Sligo Leitrim Independent TD Marian Harkin with the Tanaiste, Leo Varadkar.

Deputy Harkin says that those impacted in Sligo must be included in the defective concrete blocks grant scheme which covers home owners for 90% of the remedial costs.

The Tánaiste was unable to give a firm commitment however he did add that he could see no reason why buildings affected in Sligo could not be included in the scheme and committed to raising the matter with the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage is Darragh O’Brien.
