Rents rising in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal

Fewer properties available for renting is one of the reasons rental prices are rising in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

This is as rent prices in Dublin, where supply is up by 20%, are falling, according to the latest daft.ie Rental Price Report released today.

In Leitrim, rents were, on average, 8.1% higher in the first quarter of this year than a year previously. The average rent in Leitrim is now €655.

They were 8.4% higher in Sligo, the average rent being €839 while in Donegal they had gone up by 7.1%, the average in the county being €704.

The cost of renting has doubled in the past 10 years, with rents rising fastest in Connacht and Ulster.

Author of the report, economist Ronan Lyons says that before the-pandemic, rents had been rising faster in Dublin.

But he says this is now happening in rural areas, such as the north west.

Rents in Dublin are starting to increase again as more people plan ahead for the return to work.

Ronan Lyons says that’s after slight decreases in previous surveys:
