Late comeback gives Donegal hurlers winning start

A late goal from Ronan McDermott, along with added time points from Niall Cleary and Declan Coulter, gave Donegal hurlers a dramatic 1-13 to 1-11 win over Roscommon in Sunday’s opening Division 2B game in Letterkenny.

The visitors looked to be on course for the win as they led by a goal as the match ticket towards injury time.

However, McDermott popped up to find the back of the Roscommon net – and that was followed by those late points from Cleary and Coulter.

The latter had missed a first-half penalty, which looked like it might prove costly.

But Donegal’s late rally helped give Mickey McCann’s side the perfect start to their national hurling league campaign for 2021.
