Response needed to address ‘accelerating mental health crisis’

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is urging cross-party support for a motion coming before the Dail tomorrow morning calling for an emergency response to what he says is the ‘accelerating mental health crisis.’

Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny says voluntary and community groups are now often filling a vacuum left by the State in dealing with an avalanche of depression, isolation, loneliness and anxiety since the onset of Covid has overwhelmed the services.

He says that now more than ever, there is a need to ensure mental health services are available to the increasing numbers who need them.
