Students sent home from Leitrim school because of Covid cases

All fifth and sixth year students at a County Leitrim secondary school were instructed today to return to their homes and study remotely.

It was as a result of the confirmation of a number of cases of Covid among senior classes at Drumshanbo Vocational School.

The Vocational School has confirmed in a statement this afternoon that four students, all in the same senior year, have tested positive for Covid.

The school says that “as a precaution”, it has returned to on-line classes for all Fifth and Sixth Years until it receives further advice from the HSE.

A special Covid response plan is also underway, which includes disinfection in all areas of the school.

Management has confirmed “all necessary precautions” have been taken to prevent any exposure in the school to staff or students.

Parents will be advised of any further updates by text.

The school says its primary focus, at this time, is to support the work of the HSE and the recovery of those affected while continuing to prioritise the safety, health and wellbeing of students, staff and teachers.
