Ballyshannon school principal says return of all students a sign of hope

A Donegal school principal says today’s return of all students to school is a sign of hope for the entire community.

Today, one million students and staff are back in their classrooms after the Easter holidays.

For hundreds of thousands of second-level students – from first to fourth year – today is their first day back in school since before Christmas.

Many continued to study online but students, teachers and parents have been voicing their delight at being able to finally return to routine with a full cohort of students.

Cora Fagan is principal of Colaiste Cholmcille in Ballyshannon.

She also says students were keen to return to school and she praised teenagers, as well as parents, grandparents and guardians, for the way they have dealt with the difficult times due to the Covid pandemic.

Cora Fagan also emphasised the importance of everyone continuing to observe the various measures to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

But she says that for now, the full return to school is a sign of hope, particularly for close-knit communities such as those in Ballyshannon.
