Mountbatten murder recalled by his daughter

The daughter of Lord Mountbatten has been recalling his murder at Mullaghmore in Co Sligo in August, 1979.

Lady Pamela Hicks outlined her recollections of the incident in an ITV programme last night, ‘My Years with the Queen’, in conversation with her daughter, India Hicks.

She had been in Classiebawn Castle on the day in question along with India and son, Ashley, when the boat with Lord Mountbatten on board was blown up in an IRA explosion, killing him and three others off the coast of Mullaghmore………

In the programme, Lady Hicks and India Hicks also recalled Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret’s contrasting reactions to the incident, as they shared a train on the way back from Mountbatten’s funeral.

She said the Queen’s response was one of silence…..
