Former Education Minister calls for Schools to be provided with greater autonomy on Covid

A former minister for education has called for greater autonomy to be given to schools to deal with outbreaks of Covid-19.

Schools in the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal will close down later today for the Easter holidays.

Concern has been expressed in some quarters as whether or not schools will re-open after the Easter break with the number of Covid-19 cases remaining alarming high.

Some outbreaks of Covid-19 have occurred at Schools.

Former Minster for education, Donegal TD Joe Mc Hugh says every effort should be made to ensure students don’t have to rely on remote learning and instead enjoy the benefits of class time.

The Fine Gael TD says a pragmatic approach is required for schools and communities to respond in the event of an outbreak of the virus within schools.
