Calls for sanitary products to be supplied for free in public buildings

A local Labour representative is urging Sligo County Council to introduce free sanitary products in all publicly owned buildings.

The Period Products (Free Provisions) Bill was passed in the Seanad in January and Nessa Cosgrove is calling on the local authority to preempt the bill, much like how Dublin City Council introduced the measure in 2019.

She said a recent survey found 46% of women have problems accessing or affording the products.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Nessa Cosgrove says it’s like having to bring your own toilet paper to a public toilet.
