Pesticide ingredients found in north west drinking water

Ingredients used in pesticides and herbicides have been discovered in the drinking supply across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

The Irish Water report for 2020 found 4 instances in Leitrim at Moneyduff/Lough Gill and the River Shannon, 10 in Donegal in the River Eske and Shannagh and 1 instance in Kilsellagh, Sligo.

If a pesticide is needed, people are encouraged to only purchase the amount required, make sure not to use it within 48 hours of rain beng forecast and to be aware of all water sources

Leitrim Councillor, Enda McGloin says with the coming good weather months, people are being asked to seek more environmentally friendly products if possible.
