Gortnaleck dispute – no longer a bridge too far.

A solution to the long running Access problem to the popular Luke’s Bridge in Gortnaleck, in North Sligo could be in the offering following an agreement with a local landowner and Sligo County Council.

Sligo Drumcliff councillor Thomas Healy says the access route to the Bridge was obstructed with mobile fencing which was used to prevent sheep wandering down to lower ground.

The fencing was an ongoing inconvenience for road users including the farmers, people saving turf, recreational walkers and emergency services personnel.

Cllr. Healy says an agreement with the landowner has been reached to allocate a portion of ground to the Council where the installation of a sheep grid along with a turnstile and gate will allow access for cars and cyclist.

The Sinn Fein councillor  has confirmed that he will be bringing a motion to Sligo County Council seeking support for these works and seeking a priority in identifying a funding source for these works.
