Sligo councillor welcomes extension to Community Employment and Tús schemes

A Sligo Councillor has welcomed an extension to the Community Employment and Tús schemes.

Participants must leave the schemes after 12 months and cannot avail of it again until a certain period of time has passed which had created fears for those taking part.

The extension of contracts will run until July and will affect over 7,000 people while a further 3,000 places are to be created.

Independent Councillor, Marie Casserly, submitted a motion in September calling for the extension and is welcoming the news.

Speaking to OceanFM News, she says a new forum will also be established that will aim to improve on the scheme going forward.
