Over 350,000 euro has been provided to the National Centre for Surfing Excellence in Strandhill assist the project to move to the construction stage.
The project has been delayed due to increased costs.
When completed the centre will provide facilities for local surfers as well as an upstairs community space to replace the previous maritime centre which was built and developed through community fundraising.
Sligo Strandhill Councillor Sinéad Maguire is a member of the current maritime centre and resident of Strandhill.
She’s been telling Ocean FM news that the funding will meet the increased costs and changes to the original plans.
