Running for our Lives is a four part documentary that opens up the world of running in the North West for newcomers and serious athletes alike. Tune in for discussion and tips from experienced runners, health and medical professionals and the view of the casual “everyman”. With over one million people running in Ireland this series offers something for everyone.
Episode One:
We explore different running options in and around Sligo and the North West. Shane Hayes of the Sligo Sports and Recreation Partnership has some advice for runners of all levels. We get an expert view on the health benefits of running and Leitrim’s Brian Kerrigan gives us an view into his weekly training routine as he looks to lose a few pounds.
Episode Two:
This week we get a real insight into the community aspect of running and see how it adds so much to people’s social lives as well as improving their fitness. We get a flavour of the Sligo Park Run in anticipation of its return at some stage this year and see how running has built a bridge between some Sligo natives and newcomers to our shores.
Episode Three:
Running is good for our bodies but it’s also good for the head. This week, John Graham discusses how we can best use running to benefit our mental health and keep ourselves on an even keel during these difficult times. We get tips on motivation and avoiding injury and head a bit further off the beaten track to experience the joys of trail running for anyone looking to take a different approach.
