Donegal mart manager says online funding welcome but it’s not enough

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue has announced funding to livestock marts for information communication technology, or ICT.

Under the scheme livestock marts can apply to the department for a grant of a maximum of €5,000 to cover 50% of expenditure on communications technology.

Minister McConalogue said that even when the COVID-19 situation allows for a return to personal attendance at marts, online sales will continue to be a significant feature.

Eimear McGuinness, manager of Donegal Livestock Mart, says the funding, although welcome, is not enough for marts that have experienced difficulties with online sales.
