Funding sought for coastal erosion in Strandhill

Funding is to be sought through the OPW for a survey on the impact of coastal erosion in one of the most popular seaside resort areas in the north west.

It follows extensive coastal erosion along the north west coast, with sand dunes at Strandhill beach having been destroyed.

Fooding has also been an issue in the area.

Following work with the Strandhill Community Development Association, the OPW and Sligo County Council will now apply for funding to produce a report on the current coastal erosion situation and possible solutions.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Sligo/Strandhill area Councillor Sinead Maguire says serious damage is being done by storms.
