The government has confirmed it will recognise the Irish Islands Marine Research Organisation as an EU fish producers organisation.
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Fisheries and the Marine Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD has welcomed the news, saying it is a significant development for the small island-based fishing fleet in Ireland.
The Donegal TD says the move will allow the group to negotiate for fair and equitable access to quotas, allowing it more input during negotiations and enabling it be a stronger representative body for its members.
