More medals & records for Mona McSharry in US



Sligo’s Mona McSharry collected two silver and two bronze medals for the University of Tennessee (UT) swimming team at the SEC Championships in Georgia at the weekend.

This was one of the signature collegiate events of the year for Tennessee.

The Sports Scholarship student also set a college record when winning silver in the women’s 200m breaststroke final.

That swim was the big result for Tennessee on the third day of competition as she finished second in the ‘A’ final in a time of 57.82 seconds.

She won another silver in the 4x200m medley final.

and bronze medals in the 4×100 and 4×200 freestyle relay events.

UT finished fifth overall in the SEC championships, winning a total of seven medals.

McSharry’s home coach, Grace Meade, spoke to Ocean FM Sport about the qualification route to the re-scheduled Toyko Olympics, which now lies in front of the Sligo girl:
